Gay Men

If you identify as a gay man, you are living in a mainstream culture that can sometime ignore or reject the unique aspects of your identity.  Gay male culture, in its own way, can be harsh, superficial, and unaccepting.  Finding a supportive community or intimate connections with others can be difficult and often the source of maladaptive patterns of thought and behavior. Psychotherapy offers an environment for many of these issues to be explored in a safe and supportive manner.

Part of my work and subsequent research was examining the experiences of gay men in regards to their initial male attraction.  How it manifested, early sexual experiences, early experiences coping with opposition and judgment.  This has heavily influence my clinical work with gay men, specifically in helping them to examine healthier relationships to sex, addressing their fears of intimacy, increasing their self-esteem, connecting to their own gay community, and countering their own inner critics.
